Five people were attacked by a man armed with a sword in North East London, The Metropolitan Police have said. One of the victims, a 14-year-old boy, died at hospital from his injuries.

The remaining four—two members of the public and two police officers—are still in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The motivation behind the attack is currently being investigated, although the police believe the attack is not linked to “any acts of terrorism”.

Video footage shows a man armed with a sword walking towards a number of homes shortly before police were able to arrest him. Police say the 36-year-old man was tasered and then arrested 22 minutes after the first 999 call was made.

The Met’s Chief Superintendent, Stuart Bell, told reporters there was no “ongoing threat to the public” and they were not seeking any other suspects.

Police had been called to a house in Thurlow Gardens, near Hainault Tube station in North East London, just before 07:00 BST where a vehicle had been driven into a house followed by a series of stabbings.

A press conference is due to take place later today.
